Nickel Industry Experience:
Prior Industries Australia has been actively involved in the global Nickel industry since
inception in 1971. During this time, PRIOR has developed substantial experience and
expertise in the application of Nichols-Herreshoff Multiple Hearth Roasters (utilising the
Caron Process) to the reduction of lateritic ores.
From 1977 to the present, PRIOR has undertaken numerous refurbishment and
expansion projects for Nickel producers in Australia, the Philippines, Brazil and the
Republic of Cuba. A total of 60 roasters, requiring in excess of 600 combustion
systems and gasifier chambers have been converted to PRIOR technology, including
burners, valve trains, control systems, refractory design/supply and installation. |
In 1989/90, PRIOR developed the High Turn Down Combustion System specifically for Nickel Industry applications, in conjunction with a re-design of the roaster gasifier chambers. Benefits of this system for Nickel producers include:
- Improved fuel efficiency
- Long service life through extensive use of Stainless Steel and other specialised
materials
- Equipment optimised specifically for Nickel roaster operation
- Drastically improved refractory and chamber life
- Lower maintenance costs
- Improved working conditions in the roaster area, especially reduced noise levels
PRIOR’s Nickel industry capabilities also include combustion systems for Dryers, Calciners, Boilers, Sintering Furnaces, Ladle pre-heating and Power Generation. We also provide consultancy and equipment in areas other than combustion, such as Aerators, Agitators, Coolers, Absorption Towers, Materials Handling and Processing.
